Real Life Little Mermaid

Shiloh Pepin will turn 8 years old on Saturday, against all odds, against all reason and against what doctors told her parents the day she was born.

Shiloh was born with sirenomelia, a disorder also known as Mermaid Syndrome. The vast majority of fetuses with sirenomelia never make it to full-term. Of those that do — and scientists say their numbers are only in the hundreds throughout the world and throughout history — almost all die within hours of birth.

OMG, I really think this is the little girl I have an article on from 3-4 years ago (age, name the same...must be right?) but I thought at the time it was an article about her going in for surgery to have them separated. Hmmm, now thinking about it they described how it would happen but not that it DID happen (they had many surgeries listed of what would have to happen from start to end). Maybe they only did the first one(gave her out for digestive system).

Lol, yes I am a geek but now I must go look up more.

I don't know if surgery would benefit her at this point. She's never had legs to use, so she'd never be able to walk. And from what I've seen in the videos, she doesn't look like she gives a shit if she has two legs or one.

She's a very brave and articulate little girl. I wish her nothing but the best. =)
