So. We all have amazingly fantastic friends on this wonderful playground we call LiveJournal, right?

So, post a small biography of who you are, what your interests are and snoop around the other commenters. See who's fun to add.

*pimps friends*

My friends are the bestest.

Sure, why not?

Name given to me by my parents: Alan Fernandez. No middle name. Even abbrieviates that on my military ID, thereby effectively ruining the point of having no middle name.

Name some people know me by: Tex, Fern, DJ Random, Make The Turn, countless others (I've lost track over the years of all my nicknames)

Current occupation: Airman in the US Air Force. Senior Airman, Aircraft Metals Technology Journeyman (machinist/welder)

Current location: 25 miles from Hell....oops, I mean, Abilene, Texas.

Favorite pastimes: reading various fanfic, reading various Star Wars books, video games, baseball, watching/writing wrestling, being an unpaid shrink to the lower ranked airmen in the dorms here on base (well, that's not a PREFERRED pastime, but it's a pastime...), Ren Faires when I can get to them (considering the nearest one to me geographically is an 8 hour drive away, not that easy), eating sushi, diner-ratting when home in Jersey, mallratting (which is about the ONLY thing to do here. Sad that the mall here mainly sucks), Internet Radio DJing

Personality: Think a really weird mix of Kramer, absent-minded professor, stereotypical otaku/comicbook fanboy, and Daria. Oh, and male.

Weird personality quirks: Started drinking egg creams because I read about them in Harriet The Spy when I was 8. Extremely pop-culture addicted. Came down on the ninja side of the Ninja Vs. Pirate thing because I have too many friends that side with pirates. Have more blacklights in my room than normal lightbulbs. Have managed, with around 2 exceptions, to stay good friends with just about every girl I've dated (in fact, 2 or 3 are amongst my best friends to this day, and one is so close we're like a weird brother/sister thing now). Cried when I watched Major League. My recordholder for movie seen the most times in theaters is The Land Before Time (the original), and I get pissed now that it's been bastardized and there are about 23 sequels. Often ask myself when I see straight-to-video Disney sequels, "Who let the Disney characters breed??" Cried when Stephan Matteau hit that wraparound and beat Brodeur to shove the Rangers into the '94 Stanley Cup Finals, and my grandmother was mildly frantic because she couldn't understand why I was crying (made me chocolate milk and everything trying to calm me down). Sleep with a stuffed cow, Miss Moo (it was gonna be Miss Wellington, but I decided that was a bit too pretentious for a stuffed cow). Stuff 3 pillows into one pillowcase to sleep on (everyone wonders how I can get comfortable with something they equate to the hardness of a brick; I've been doing it since high school because normal pillows don't support my head and I wake up with a stiff neck). Leave the windows open in the dead of winter and don't turn the heat on; if I get cold, I simply grab more blankets or more clothes. Kissed the ground when I got off the plane last time I returned home to Jersey. Pioneered the "lost little raver at a goth club" look: baggy raver-style jeans, video game/comic book/Hot Topic Slogan t-shirt, wristbands (two on the right arm, one on the wrist and one up by the elbow, and one on the left wrist), basketball sneakers, and occasionally a cape. Master of assigning animal nicknames to people. Usually really hyper. Cheer up in sterotypically gloomy weather (y'know, gray skies, rains medium to medium-hard and doesn't stop for at the very least a day and a half, stays kinda cool and damp). My favorite comics have, with no exceptions, ever lasted longer than 80 issues (Transformers Generation 1, Supergirl [the Peter David run on the book that did the whole Earth-Born Angel thing], Generation X, New Warriors, Power Pack, and now current favorite is Runaways, which is only up to 26). Master of useless triva (one of my lifelong ambitions since I was 7 was to be a contestant on Jeopardy). To this day, I can't remember if I like Shirley Manson because she's a redhead, or if I started liking redheads because of Shirley Manson (well, that's not the ONLY reason I like her, but it's part of it, to be sure). Used to half-heartedly wish that I would get abducted by aliens.

Ah...okay, I think I'll stop now. Nikki said a short bio, and I kinda went overboard....

There is something about the way the world smells when it is not *quite* raining, huh?

Indeed. I LOVE that smell. I never get enough of it down here. It's sunny 90% of the time, and when it decides to rain, it rains REALLY hard for like 19 minutes, then is sunny again. I miss good ol' Jersey rain....gets cloudy on a Monday afternoon, starts raining Monday night and doesn't let up till very early Wednesday morning, and you get the rain smell before and after it starts raining. Bliss.

Incidentally, my all-time favorite song is Only Happy When It Rains. :D

HA! I am partial to Paint it Black.

I never liked Jersey weather. But then, I never liked Jersey. *shrugs* I am biased.

And it drizzles down here. It's either nasty hot, chest hurting cold or crazy thunderstorms... I like the thunderstorms, so that makes it okay with me. :D

I don't mind the thunderstorms (in fact, the absolute best lightning bolts I've seen have all been while on Dyess), but I actually miss Jersey humidity. See, it's really hot down here during the summer, but it's hot and dry, which I actually find to be slightly more uncomfortable than hot and humid (guess my body's just used to humidity). And I HATE winters down here. It feels twice as cold here than in Jersey specifically because it's way less humid and way windier. 30 degrees here feels like 8 degrees in Jersey.

As for the "hating Jersey" thing, it might be an Oklahoma thing. One of my friends down here is from Muskogee, OK, and he's professed to dislike Jersey (but, by using me as his only example of the Jersey species, which makes for bad judgement, as I'm far from a typical example).

I think my disklike for Jersey is mostly because my ex was from Newark. He is now *back* in Newark with the rest of the New York sized cockroaches.

Just kidding. About the cockroaches, I mean. We all know that Jersey ones are bigger. :D

Of course, the only part of Jersey that I have ever seen was Newark. I have heard that there are beautiful parts to it-and I bet that I would like those parts. I just don't like lots of people... thus, I don't like Newark... thus I don't like Jersey.

When will people learn, that Newark is the absolutely WORST example anyone can draw from Jersey? As much as I love KMFDM, I concur that there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with them, based on the fact that a few of them have actually decided that Newark, NJ, is a good place to live based on aesthetics. Two words, people: PASSAIC RIVER!
