Uh.
What??

A cat, Mimi, nurses what its owner Cassia Aparecida de Souza claims are Mimi's own offsprings born with dog traits last Friday, three months after mating with a neighbour's dog, in the southern Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul state, November 15, 2006. A geneticist from the Passo Fundo University plans to take blood samples from the animals to verify the claim by Cassia and her husband Rogerio that the puppies are part of Mimi's litter of six, of which the three that were born with cat features died soon after birth, leaving the surviving three dog-like offsprings. Is that even like. Genetically possible?

On this one, I am stumped.
You can look here for some other crazy stories about "mutant offsprings"
http://www.messybeast.com/marten-cat.html
But, I am not sure about this.
Not sure at all....

i love that icon.
i'm thinking. the cats kittens died. and a dog had too many puppies. so they gave the puppies to the cat to nurse. cause animals do that. i've seen pigs suckle from tigers. it happens.

Y'know, it begs the question. Dogs and cats have different methods of sex. Male cats have a spiky penis, that they yank out when done. Not pleasant for the female. But dogs penises swell up when ejaculating, and stay swollen till well after the semen start their merry way to do their job. Ensures that the dog'll be the parent, and not some other dog that fucks her after him. I wonder, if this turns out to be true, whether the cat prefers one way or the other.
And genetic & mechanic differences aside, how can they even TEST for something like this? I mean, if they HAVE different numbers of chromosomes, wouldn't it beg the question whether the puppie-kitties would have the same number of chromosomes as the father, the mother, or a completely different number from either? I'm rusty on my genetics, so I don't know.

As far as the testing. I'm sure they can determine at this point if it is cat or dog DNA. Different gene sequences, but not hard in today's world.

Genetically not a match, not even close to same species.
Geez, now I'm flashing to discussion with one class today. We just started genetics, the book shows crosses of different rabbits and cats so we discussed hybrid animals.
Ligers & Tigons- yes
Zorse and Zonkey -yes
Cama - yes
Wolphin -yes
